How to get the best results from your Coral abrasive

Taking a few easy steps before, during and after using your abrasive will ensure it performs at its best on each use and increase its effectiveness. We??ve shared some useful tips to make sure you achieve impressive results every time.

Q: How should I choose the right abrasive?

A: Abrading a surface means wearing away the top layer through rubbing or friction and is a very important part of surface preparation, providing a key for the coating or covering to be applied to and smoothing the surface to give a good-quality finish. Using the correct type of abrasive is key; one that is too coarse can leave scratches on surfaces that show through to the finish, whilst a material that is too fine can have a long preparation time and be ineffective at removing or levelling rough surface imperfections.

Coarse grits are typically in the 40- to 50-grit range.

Medium grits typically range from 60- to 100-grit.

Fine grits range from 120- to 220-grit.

Q: What application method will deliver the best results?

A: For flat surfaces use a sanding sponge or if using sandpaper, it is advisable to wrap this around a sanding block. Work in a circular motion, constantly checking both visually and by touch to ensure you do not over-sand. It is possible to use a coarser grit to begin and then work through to a finer grit to finish the job.
