About the Traditional German Brand Schildkr?t
In 1896 the “Rheinische Gummi und Celluloid Fabrik” in Mannheim-Neckarau developed the Blass-Press method, for the production process of hollow bodies made of celluloid, and immediately registered the necessary patents. This was the starting point for the production of dolls’ heads and later, for table tennis balls. This process was made under the Schildkr?t brand, which was registered from 1899 retrospectively to 1889. Schildkr?t means shell of the turtle and is a reminiscense of the tint and pattern of the celluloid products and that is why it is used as the company logo until today. It embodies resilience, durability and resilience.
In the 80s the product range was divided into different areas: dolls, toys and table tennis, which were then taken over by various companies. In 1984 the current company owners took over the sporting goods sector, built the first western table tennis production in China in 1989 and quickly developed the brand.

In 2000, through the cooperation between Donic and Schildkr?t, the strengths of these respectful table tennis brands were combined into Donic-Schildkr?t. Donic is one of the world’s most successful brands in the table tennis competition area, with top contract players and table tennis legends such as Jan-Ove Waldner and J?rgen Persson.
