Our ball pump needles can be used for most sports balls including football, rugby, netball, basketball, GAA, gym balls, etc.

How to Use our Ball Pump Needles:

  1. Ideally use a ball pump with an air pressure gauge to monitor the air pressure. Each ball should have a number, usually beside the valve that denotes the amount of air pressure that the ball should be inflated to. Please note, under inflation will not damage the ball, but over inflation may damage the inner membrane of the ball.
  2. Attach the ball pump needle into the air pump. Some ball pumps have a thread mechanism, some have a clamping system whereby the ball pump needle is clasped to secure it to the ball pump.Depending on the pump you may have to attach an adaptor or valve or nozzle to fit our standard 7mm needle to a pump that takes a smaller needle, e.g. the EU standard 5mm needle.
  3. Our ball needles are designed to be kind to your sports balls due to the rounded top of the pin head.That said, it is good practice to lubricate the needle before inserting. Use either silicone or glycerine oil, and place a few drops in and around the valve in the soccer ball and also lubricate the needle.
  4. Take the handle on the pump and start pumping.Check at regular intervals to ensure you are not over-inflating the ball and stop when the recommended air pressure is reached.

Maintenance tips for your sports ball:

  1. Avoid kicking it hard against walls. Never sit or stand on your sports ball. This puts too much pressure on the stitching of the ball and can cause it to become warped or eventually burst.
  2. Check the pressure often. Balls with butyl bladders will retain air much longer than balls with latex bladders.
  3. Optional – Deflate your ball slightly after a game. Although not necessary, manufacturers recommend that after a match, you should let a little air out of your football ball. This reduces the stress on the ball when it’s not in use. Just don’t forget to re-inflate it before using it again.
  4. Play on smooth or soft surfaces. Stick to playing either on smooth wooden floors, grass, or turf.
