Milfoil – Information

Milfoil is a rooting oxygenating plant that is supplied in bunches with a weight that allows the plant to get established and grow from the bottom of your pond. We suggest 3 – 4 bunches per sqm to allow the plant to give the coverage of 1 meter squared. Milfoil has a fan style leaf and with a mix of hornwort can catch alot of particles in the water and clear clay bottom lakes. Oxygenating plants do require work as these grow very fast and do require trimming to allow these to not over grow. The comparison on land isgrass which needs maintaince heavily during the summer and very little in the winter.

Milfoil – Native Milfoil is a rooting oxygenating plant that is great at growing in the uk and can flower once breaking the surface. In cooler waters the plant with be a brown rather than a green but this is grown in tanks to allow the plant to be supplied green.	Hornwort – Native Hornwort is now the best oxygenatin plant in the UK. Hornwort is non rooting and grows green during the warm months and goes black during thewinter. With this being non rooting it is very easy to remove when the plant grows to much as general maintence but used alongside milfoil in clay lakes works well to clear the water.	Fontalis – Native Fontalis is a native moss oxygenating plant that is great for fish and bugs to breed. This is more of a non visual plant unless placed in the shallows or left to overgrow upto the surface of the pond. This can be black when it gets limited light and green as it get near to the surface.	Egeria Densa – Non Native Egeria Densa (Elodea Densa) – This was selected by Lincolnshire Pond Plants as a replacement for Elodea crispa which was banned for sale in the uk. Although we would have not liked to offer a replacement on the research put in place by many university’s the Egeria densa can live in the UK but will not grow as fast as elodea crispa as it prefers warmer waters. Both plants eat large amounts and both work well as a oygenating plant. We can only stress that the plant will need composting not releasing into rivers or streams.
